CDI Consultant
Job Summary
Â
As a CDI Consultant, you will perform both prospective and retrospective reviews of medical records. Prospective reviews are aimed at assisting providers with complete documentation for quality and reimbursement purposes. Retrospective reviews provide insight into education and reimbursement opportunities. Documentation review encompasses inpatient, outpatient facility and physician clinic encounters; a working knowledge of coding and reimbursement methodologies should be demonstrated.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of clinical documentation requirements and coding guidelines applicable to inpatient and outpatient care settings.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of DRG, APC and HCC methodologies and coding guidelines.
- Demonstrates the ability to prepare and analyze quality and financial reports.
- Possesses thorough understanding of the legal and compliance issues as they pertain to clinical documentation.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and present information to clinical end users.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently.
- Queries providers in order to obtain accurate and complete documentation which supports patient care and HCC coding.
- Participates in development, implementation and roll-out of electronic documentation and capture tools to enhance provider documentation. Use point of care tools to capture complete, accurate and effective documentation, while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Works with Director, CDI in performing quality control audits to support tracking and trending of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of clients.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required with one or more of the following credentials:
RN, RN/BSN
CCDS, CCDS-O – highly preferred
RHIA, RHIT – preferred
CDIP, CCS, CPC, CRC – preferred
Required Experience –
Minimum three years of progressive coding or CDI experience. Working knowledge of DRG and HCC and impact on patient care and clinical/quality outcomes is strongly preferred. Â
